Jesus shall reign where'er the sun
Does its successive journeys run,
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.For him shall endless prayer be made,
And princes throng to crown his head;
His name, like sweet perfume, shall rise
With every morning sacrifice.People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on his love with sweetest song,
And infant-voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on his name.Blessings abound where'er he reigns;
The prisoners leap to lose their chains;
The weary find eternal rest,
And all the sons of want are blest.Let every creature rise and bring
Honors peculiar to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud amen.
... Isaac Watts, Psalms of David Imitated, Psalm 72
Let songs of praises fill the sky!
Christ, our ascended Lord,
Sends down his Spirit from on high,
According to his word.The Spirit by his heavenly breath,
New life creates within:
He quickens sinners from the death
Of trespasses and sin.The things of Christ the Spirit takes,
And shows them unto men;
The fallen soul his temple makes,
God's image stamps againCome, Holy Spirit, from above,
With thy celestial fire:
Come, and with flames of zeal and love
Our hearts and tongues inspire.
